Strassmann Poker Death
A DNA test performed by Slovenian authorities has confirmed that a body discovered in the Ljublianica River is that of 29 year old German poker pro Johannes Strassmann.
Strassmann was originally reported as missing on June 21.
According to PokerNews.com, which has maintained the lead on this tragic story, and has published the Slovenian police report, “criminal investigators [have] excluded a violent criminal offence. The laboratory tests of bodily fluids are still ongoing.”

According to a post made on Saturday around 1:00pm Eastern Time on a Facebook page entitled “ Missing Johannes Strassmann ” (pictured), the cause of death was drowning and the time of death was Saturday, June 21 at Midnight. The post added, “It was a terrible accident. Johannes was not involved in an illegal poker game. One of the World Series of Poker's most anticipated events kicked off yesterday, as poker heavyweights battled it out in a $40,000 no-limit Hold'em tournament. At the end of the day only 89 players remained out of a field of 201. The tournament is the largest no-limit Hold'em event ever held in the U.S., and the winner will earn $1,891,012.
Strassmann accumulated $1,558,402 in career live tournament cashes according to the Hendon Mob database with three European Poker Tour final table cashes from 2008-2010—all over $200,000—and a $363,000 fifth place effort in the 2013 EPT London High Roller tournament.
Fellow competitor Tony “Bond18” Dunst issued a heartfelt message via Twitter Saturday conveying his remorse over the news.
Strassmann’s most recent live tournament cash was in April of this year, when he placed 50th in the EPT 10 Monte Carlo Grand Final for €24,400.

German poker professional Johannes Strassmann, who went missing last week in Slovenia, was confirmed dead a few days ago after a DNA test. Strassmann was visiting some friends in the Slovenian capital Ljubljana and was reported missing on June 21. The police tried their best to find him by carrying out out numerous operations in the country involving helicopters, search teams and search dogs. On Friday morning, police found a body in poor condition of the banks of the Ljubljanica River in Ljubljana and immediately ordered a DNA test. The DNA test confirmed that it was the 29-year-old Johannes Strassmann's body they had found. His cause of death was reported as accidental drowning. Yeah this has a bad ending i as hoping for a good one, like he was enjoying like somewhere like partying or something or was in jail even. Anyway sad story and my sympathy goes to his family and friends, this is really terrible news and see how life short is that is why if you have a dream like playing poker at the world stakes, better aim for it as you do not know what life has in store for you!! | |

Even though i had hopes i was afraid right from the beginning that this may be the outcome of this story... Now i hope that police will make a serious investiation and find out if really his death was an accident or not. |
